Celebrations for the Beginning of the
Pontificate of Pope Leo XIV

 

On May 18, the Holy Church rejoiced with the inaugural Mass of the pontificate of Pope Leo XIV, celebrated under the patronage of the Mother of Good Counsel of Genazzano. Members of the Heralds of the Gospel present in the European continent also gathered in St. Peter’s Square to pay their homage to the Vicar of Christ and to pray for his intentions, as well as to warmly greet him.

 

Brazil – The Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, in Caieiras (São Paulo), affiliated with the Papal Basilica of Saint Mary Major, joined the celebrations for the beginning of the pontificate with a solemn Eucharist of thanksgiving, celebrated on May 20. The ceremony began with the inauguration of the coat of arms of Pope Leo XIV, affixed to the portal of the basilica, and concluded with the singing of the “Te Deum”.

 


 

Commemorations in Honour of the
Virgin of Fatima

 

Portugal – The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima in Portugal hosted the 20th National Gathering of the Shrine Apostolate, Mary, Queen of All Hearts on May 10. The activities began with a meditation led by Fr. Ricardo José Basso, EP, followed by a Eucharistic Celebration presided over by Archbishop Rui Manuel Sousa Valério, SMM, Patriarch of Lisbon. After the celebration, there was a recitation of the Rosary and a procession to the Chapel of the Apparitions.

 

Worldwide – In addition to the activities carried out in Portugal, commemorations for the feast of Our Lady of Fatima, on May 13, were held everywhere the Heralds of the Gospel are active. The  photos feature the ceremonies held in the Brazilian cities of Caieiras and Mairiporã (SP), Montes Claros (MG) and Lauro de Freitas (BA); as well as in Tocancipá, Colombia; in Madrid, Spain; in Cuenca, Ecuador; in Ciudad Hidalgo, Mexico; in Heredia, Costa Rica; and in Juigalpa, Nicaragua.

 


 

Retreats and “Afternoons with Mary” – Various activities were held between March and June, aiming at the doctrinal formation and spiritual progress of those who have already consecrated themselves as slaves of love to the Blessed Virgin. In the photos above, the close of a retreat at the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima, in Cotia (Brazil) and at the Oratory of Our Lady of the Reconquest in El Retiro, Colombia; and “Afternoons with Mary” held at the Church of Our Lady of Good Counsel, in Piraquara, and at the Church of Our Lady of Claríssimos Montes, in Montes Claros, as well as in Puebla, Mexico, and in Siguatepeque, Honduras.


 

Italy – During the months of April and May, the Pilgrim Statue of the Immaculate Heart of Mary visited the Parish of St. Francis of Assisi in Campi Salentina, in Lecce, and the St. Luigi Orione RSA Hospital in Messina. In the same period, the Mercy Fund paid for the maintenance of the solidarity taxi of the community of Anoia, in Reggio Calabria, designated for the transport of needy persons.


 

El Salvador – A charity dinner to support the construction of the Church of Our Lady of Fatima was held in April at the Hilton Hotel in San Salvador. The event was attended by the Apostolic Nuncio to the country, Archbishop Luigi Roberto Cona, and the Most Rev. Luis Morao Andreazza, OFM, Bishop Emeritus of Chalatenango.


 

Paraguay – On April 27, the Heralds of the Gospel participated in the celebration of Divine Mercy Sunday at St. John Marie Vianney Parish, in Lambaré. The institution’s choir sang during the Mass and joined in the procession that took place immediately afterwards through the surrounding streets.


 

Brazil – Sisters from the feminine sector of the Heralds of the Gospels carried out a Marian mission in five communities in the city of Jaraguá do Sul (SC) between the months of April and June. The Shrine of the Immaculate Heart of Mary visited homes and commercial establishments, bringing them the blessings of the Mother of God.
