Holy Authority and Perfect Union

I always considered my parents to be saints. We had deep respect and admiration for them. I sometimes wondered if there was anyone like them on earth. At least I could not find them around me.

Mama had as much admiration for my father as she did affection, and she let him fully exercise a truly patriarchal authority.

My father often spoke to us about our “holy mother”, as he called her. She, for her part, wrote to her brother: “What a holy man my husband is! I would wish one like him for all women.”

The perfect union of these model parents was always orientated towards the thought of eternal life.
