I found it amusing, my daughter, to see how you complain without cause, for you have there my Father Friar John of the Cross, who is a celestial and divine man; for I tell you, my daughter, I have not found in all of Castile another like him, who inspires with such fervour the path to Heaven. You cannot imagine how keenly I feel his absence. See what a great treasure you have there in this saint. All those of that house should consult and communicate with him concerning their souls, and they will see how much they will profit by it, and how they will find themselves far advanced in all that is spirit and perfection, for Our Lord has given him special grace for this.
Be certain that I would value having my Father Friar John of the Cross here, who is indeed the father of my soul, and one of those who have most done me good with his communication. Do thus, my daughters, with entire confidence, for I assure you that you can direct yourselves to him as you would to me and you will be well satisfied, as he is highly spiritual and has great experience and learning. He is sorely missed by those here who were accustomed to his doctrine.
Give thanks to God, who has granted that you have him so close at hand. I will write to him asking him to assist you and I know that in his great charity he will do so in any necessity that arises.
